Social Media Review - October 17, 2014

Hello everyone!  It's been a few weeks since our last post, so let's get right into things with some of the latest "social stuff" happening around Tour.  This post is going to highlight two of our players that are using the power of social media to gain interest in their latest endeavors.

Michelle Wie's Golf Digest Cover Contest

Michelle Wie truly embraces all that social media has to offer and the contest she ran a few weeks ago is no exception.

After her Golf Digest cover hit the stands, Wie took to Twitter and asked fans to send her pictures of themselves reading the magazine.  The first 50 entries using #WiezyOnDigest got a signed copy from Michelle.

Morgan Pressel Foundation Golf Bag Giveaway

Morgan Pressel has a passion for raising funds and awareness for Breast Cancer. Her mother passed away from the disease in 2003. In 2010, after a few years of fundraising, the Morgan Pressel Foundation was created, and is looking to make a difference in the future.  To date, the Morgan Pressel Foundation has raised $1.75 million.

With the monies raised, the Foundation was able to purchase the Kathryn Krickstein Pressel Mammovan in association with the Boca Raton Regional Hospital, which travels around the area providing easy access for a yearly mammogram.

Pressel's main fundraiser is her yearly "Morgan & Friends" Gala and Golf event.  Last year, with a little help from her friends, she raised $600K for her Foundation and she celebrated the Morgan Pressel Center for Cancer Genetics.

Pressel recently took to Facebook to promote her golf bag giveaway to further raise awareness.

With her personal video and post, Morgan asks fans to "like" the Morgan Pressel Foundation Facebook page and comment on how they plan to raise breast cancer awareness during the month of October and she would pick a lucky winner to receive one of her staff golf bags.  Very cool.  She's also donating $1 for every share of this post, up to $5,000, to the Foundation. Very, very cool.

Head on over to the Morgan Pressel Foundation Facebook page, like it and share the post!

Week in Review - September 22, 2014

It was an exciting week for women’s golf as the LPGA Tour made its way to Prattville, Alabama for the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic and the Symetra Tour held its season finale at our home course, LPGA International, in Daytona Beach.  Here’s a quick recap of some of our social highlights of the week:

It’s Not Easy Being (Jaye Marie) Green

One of this blogger’s favorite tunes is “It’s Not Easy Being Green” by Kermit the Frog.  Well… that’s obviously not the case for LPGA rookie, Jay Marie Green, as she took over our Instagram feed on Wednesday to show us how easy and fun her life is on Tour in our #LPGADayInTheLife series.

If you followed Jaye Marie on our feed, you quickly saw that she’s quite funny and loves life to the fullest.  Her Dad is her caddie and together, they are taking the Tour life all in.  I once rode on a shuttle bus with Jay Marie’s Dad and asked him how his year was thus far and he said “I’m just taking this fun and unique opportunity all in week by week and am very blessed to be doing this with my daughter.”

Here are few Instagram highlights from Jaye Marie’s day on the LPGA feed (@LPGA_Tour):

Sad to say I don't work out.... This is about as close as I get! #LPGAdayinthelife @jayemgreen

I like to keep my warm ups before first rounds short to not wear myself out. #LPGAdayinthelife @jayemgreen

There’s only one thing that Jaye Marie didn’t capture in her photos… how her Dad makes his hair do that!  :)

Let’s face it, the Fans Loved Pressel on Facebook

Morgan Pressel took time out of her very busy schedule on Wednesday to answer fan’s questions on our Facebook page.

We usually ask for a 30-minute session with the players, as we don’t want to infringe on their practice times or other commitments.  Morgan began answering fan’s questions and before you knew it, 30 minutes had passed.  Pressel ended up staying with her Q&A session for an hour and 15 minutes and later that evening, went back and answered more questions.  Truly a #LPGASeeWhy moment for sure.

Ladies… Start Your Engines

With the Symetra Tour’s final event of the season at LPGA International in Daytona, it seemed only fitting to have the Pro-Am Party at Daytona International Speedway.  Thanks to our friends at the track, and our local BMW dealership (Fields BMW of Daytona), guests were allowed to hop in and take a ride of their life around the famed track.

Here’s a GoPro video we shot to give our fans a sense of what it’s like.  As we were driving around the track at 130 mph, it dawned on me that NASCAR drivers are going 50-70 mph faster and are driving in a pack just inches apart from each other.  Yikes!  I’ll stick to my slow moving golf cart, thank you.

Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic Champions Challenge

The folks who run Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic truly understand how to incorporate the title sponsor’s product into a publicity stunt.

On Wednesday, four past champions (Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Katherine Kirk and Maria (Hjorth) McBride participated in the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic Champions Challenge where they each tried to hit through a row of tires that spelled out Y-O-K-O-H-A-M-A. This was done before 2,000 screaming 4th graders who were on hand for the annual trick-shot artist's exhibition.

We filmed the event a-la GoPro and produced this quick piece for fans to see:

Lexi Thompson won the challenge and took a little time to take a #LPGAWinnerSelfie.

The tournament also created a driving contest (car simulators) and the players had their very own leaderboard going.  Looks like Stacey Keating is the one with the great driving skills and lead foot! :)

So many great social stunts, so little time! :)

See ya next week!
